2 Gals serves American cuisine with a Portuguese twist

ABINGTON — Two married entrepreneurs have gone against the grain after working in the food industry for more than a decade.

The couple decided to open their second restaurant, 2 Gals Sports Bar and Grill in Abington.

Grace and Carol Rodrigues opened their first location, 2 Gals Grill, in West Bridgewater as a nice breakfast place to serve hot coffee to locals and a good morning pick me up.

Their next passion project was 2 Gals Sports Bar and Grill located at 201 North Quincy St. in Abington.

As you enter the sports bar, the bright yellow walls hug you with happiness and sunshine. The owners felt it was necessary to brighten up customers’ days.

The walls are not the restaurant’s wow factor. Placed on every street corner, high-definition flat-screen TVs give people the ultimate homey feeling to kick off their shoes and enjoy a beer.

The menu is a mix of classic American pub fare, Southern comfort food and a traditional Portuguese twist.

Grace, who is Portuguese, grew up in a family that cooked extravagant meals every day. Grace wanted to bring some of her culture to the menu, she said.

You can find fried appetizers, seafood platters, homemade mac and cheese, bar pizzas, and steak and cheese fresh off the grill.

Grace, originally from Rhode Island, started cooking at age 14 and it has never left her. As a teenager, she worked in numerous restaurants and rose through the ranks from bus tables to management.

One day, the couple thought it was better to invest all their energy in their own restaurant rather than managing someone else’s. Working in the restaurant industry took up a lot of time to care for their families. But now, as a family, they can run their own business as a collective.

What’s next for 2 Gals?

Carol and Grace found two perfect spots and let their culinary dreams lead the way.

Moving forward, for 2 Gals, Carol and Grace hope to finalize preparations for their food truck and get it on the road.

Their goal is to expand the restaurant and have multiple locations, near and far.
