Algarve best seaside destination in Europe

For the third year in a row, and the eighth overall, the Algarve has won the award for the best seaside destination in Europe

The award was presented in this year’s edition of the World Travel Awards, widely regarded as the most prestigious awards in the tourism and travel industry.

The Algarve managed to win the prize despite stiff competition in the category, notably in Cannes (France), Corfu (Greece), Mallorca (Spain), Marbella (Spain), Sardinia (Italy) and Porto Santo.

“This award consolidates the perception of the differentiated quality of our destination’s offer compared to its main competitors,” said João Fernandes, President of Turismo do Algarve. “With the natural beauty of the region, the Algarve has been able to combine a set of experiences that transform the days of those who travel to this destination into surprising and emotional stays, and it is these value propositions that are recognized and generate a growing interest among visitors and tourists, ”he added.

These new accolades follow Portugal‘s crowning last week as the best country in the world by Conde Nast Traveler.

Alda Filipe, Portuguese national and sales manager of Kronos Homes, commented on the awards: “Portugal is a wonderful country, full of charm and with so much to discover. It’s nice to see that my home nation is recognized with these awards. It is very well deserved. “

Another victory for Madeira

Meanwhile, Madeira has won the award for Europe’s best island destination for the eighth time.

The regional secretary of Tourism and Culture of Madeira, Eduardo Jesus, said it was “a remarkable achievement”.

He went on to highlight the number of times Madeira has won this award, which helps “to give more consistency to the recognition that the region has achieved in the world in recent years”, including the “trust generated with security presented by the destination in the fight against the pandemic “.

In the opinion of Eduardo Jesus, the attribution of this award “should fill with pride all those who work in tourism in the region, as well as the residents, who see their land being continuously valued internationally and the thousands of visitors who appreciate their vacation destination even more “.

The findings follow a year-long search of the world’s leading brands in travel, tourism and hospitality. Votes were cast by travel industry professionals and the public, with the nominee receiving the most votes in a category designated as the winner.

Graham Cooke, Founder of World Travel Awards, said: “Our winners represent the best of the European travel and tourism industry and I congratulate each of them. They all play a leading role in leading the recovery of travel and tourism. “

Despite the challenges the tourism industry faced in 2020, this year’s edition of the World Travel Awards was very popular in terms of voting, revealing that the desire to travel and interest in quality destinations continues. to manifest itself strongly.

The World Travel Awards were established in 1993 and are presented annually to recognize, reward and celebrate excellence in all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries.
