Belfast-based FinTrU announces plans to create 500 jobs in Portugal

BELFAST-based financial services group FinTrU has announced a major expansion in Europe that will create 500 jobs in Porto.

The fast-growing company, which specializes in technology solutions for global investment banks, has secured support from the Portuguese government for a new client delivery center.

It comes just three months after FinTrU announced that the Irish government was supporting the creation of 300 jobs at a new European delivery center in Letterkenny.

Founded in 2013, FinTrU today employs around 1,100 people in four offices in Belfast and Derry, as well as smaller hubs in Dublin, London, New York and Maastricht.

FinTrU said on Monday that the Porto expansion will further enable its employees to work in its various global locations.

The company’s Founder and Managing Director, Darragh McCarthy, said: “As FinTrU continues to grow its portfolio of International Investment Banking clients, we view this expansion of our global footprint as a very important step in the journey. of our business.

“After reviewing a number of European locations, we had no illusions that Porto was the best choice for FinTrU as the next customer delivery base.”

FinTrU said its Porto office has been approved as a project of national strategic interest by the state body IEFP (Institute of Employment and Vocational Training).

It is also supported by the Portuguese trade and investment agency, AICEP, essentially the national version of Invest NI.

FinTrU Chief of Staff Katrien Roppe said: “We have worked closely with AICEP, who have been fantastic in demonstrating the opportunities Porto has to offer. The highly qualified talents, the thriving business community and the best universities on offer confirmed our decision.

“Customer projects based at FinTrU Porto will be integrated into the FinTrU delivery framework, ensuring the high level of quality standards we offer to our global customers.”

FinTrU said it plans to redevelop 32,000 square feet of office space in Rua de Santa Catarina, located in the commercial center of Porto, and open the offices by the end of 2022.
