Jack Pollock: Tributes to ‘nice’ Edinburgh schoolboy who died on holiday before his 15th birthday

Jack Pollock, 14, died on Thursday September 29 while visiting Portugal with his mother Johan and brother Jude.

Tributes poured in on social media for the Royal High School pupil, from Clermiston, who is a boxing enthusiast and described as “funny, adorable and kind”.

His father Darryl paid tribute to the talented teenager who died just three days before his 15th birthday.

Writing on Facebook, he said: “Birthday boy in 3 days. Love it [you] too many jacks.

“Broken smashed all in one. I am here with you and I just wished you were sitting here next to me.

“Things will never be the same again, we didn’t expect that to happen on vacation.

“We need him to be a peace and a home. We’ll get you home no matter what.”

Granton Amateur Boxing Club trainer David Barclay also paid tribute to the teenager.

He wrote: “On my behalf and on behalf of everyone at Granton Amateur Boxing Club, we would like to share our deepest condolences with the family of Jack with tears in his eyes and a lump in his throat.

“I can tell you that Jack’s passing has devastated an entire community.

“A little less than a year ago you walked into my gym full of ideas and mischief, a typical teenager who loved boxing.

“As anyone involved with Jack would agree, this kid had the heart of a lion. In my opinion, this kid would have gone far in the boxing world.

“Jack: you were never a member, you were part of the little family. May God give you the best bed in heaven and everyone keeps Jack’s family in their thoughts and prayers. Rest easy, little champion.

A fundraiser has been set up by a family friend to cover funeral costs and ensure Jack’s body is safely repatriated from Portugal.

Created just three days ago, the GoFundMe page has already raised over £8,000.

The message on the GoFundMe page reads: “On behalf of Jack’s family and close friends, it is with great sadness that we announce that our dear friend Jack Pollock passed away suddenly on Thursday September 29, 2022 at the 14 years old.

“Jack was funny, adorable and kind. In his group of close friends, he always made people laugh. He always put his friends first – caring more about others than himself.

“Jack adored his mother and was a devoted and loyal big brother. He will be missed by all who knew him.

“With a passion for boxing, he was dedicated to training and being the best. He had a love of CDT and history.

“We are trying to raise funds to help Jack’s mum cover upcoming expenses. We know that no amount of money will ever bring Jack back, but if we can help ease the pressure and ease the family a little, then we’ll do our best.

“If you are financially able to donate and want to donate, do so. The family greatly appreciates all the support.

“All funds raised will go directly to Jack’s mother”/
