Manchester United could sign Joao Felix as Cristiano Ronaldo’s heir, but would likely face competition from Chelsea and Man City.
Ronaldo may still be remarkably at the top of his game right now, but United will soon have to determine who will replace the 36-year-old. And Felix, who is already the Portuguese successor to the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, seems like the perfect fit.
The 21-year-old has seen his progress stutter since his £ 113million transfer to Atletico Madrid in 2019.
But the blame for this cannot be placed on his shoulders. At the time, he seemed oddly suited for a Diego Simeone team, and it turned out to be true.
The striker does not match the philosophy of the La Liga club. After two seasons of trying to make things work, there seems to be no solution to the problem.
As such, Felix could now be heading for an exit, according to Todo Fichajes. They report that Atletico are ready to accept a suitable offer, if they do as well.
That’s because they would prioritize a new contract for ex-Liverpool man Luis Suarez. His exceptional deal would mean the sale of Felix could help financial fair play.
The report claims the Premier League is the most likely destination for the former Benfica star.
Among England’s top teams, the trio of Red Devils, Blues and City are said to be the clubs that are very interested in his signing.
Felix signed a seven-year contract when he left his home country for Spain. That means he’ll have four more years to go next summer.
While it would cost them a significant amount of money, United signing him in 2022 would be the perfect time.
This would allow Felix to work even more closely with his national teammate as he nears the end of his career and disappears from the team’s first photo at Old Trafford.
Starlet breaks United’s silence
Meanwhile, much-loved Monaco starlet Aurélien Tchouameni has admitted he is doing his best to ignore speculation surrounding his future as a number of big clubs surround the midfielder.
The 21-year-old spent a superb 12 months with the Ligue 1 squad, winning a call-up for the France squad.
His style of play has also been compared to that of influential Chelsea star N’Golo Kante.
United are one of the main contenders for his signing, and Tchouameni has broken his silence on the matter …
