Hudson –Manuel P. Lopes, 82, a longtime resident of Hudson, MA, died Sunday, October 2, 2022 at Marlborough Hospital with his beloved wife of 47 years, Maria I. (da Silva) Lopes in its ratings.

Besides his wife Maria, Manuel leaves behind his son, Daniel Lopes of Northborough, MA; his two daughters, Isabel Lopes of Hudson, MA and Helena Lopes of Sterling, MA. He is also survived by his brother, Victor Lopes of Belgium; his sister Idalina Tinta of Marlborough, MA as well as other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his sister Maria Lourenco.

Born and raised in Corticada, Portugal, Manuel was the son of the late Antonio and Maria P. Lopes. He attended local schools in Portugal and enjoyed working hard during his early years in Portugal. In 1966, he emigrated to the United States and settled in Hudson, MA. He was employed for many years as a machine operator by Independent Cable Company in Hudson until his retirement. He was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of Saint Michael Parish in Hudson.

Manuel loved the simple things in life, getting together with his friends and family was always special. In his spare time, he took long walks or rode his bike. He enjoyed being outside working in his yard and garden for many hours. He was a talented auto mechanic and maintained and repaired his own vehicles or helped friends when needed. Manuel and his wife Maria looked forward to the many trips back to Portugal to visit family and friends. He will always be remembered for his kind and generous spirit, his infectious smile and the warmth of his heart which he shared with all who loved and knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited for a visitation period from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2022 at the Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA. A Christian Burial Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Saint Michael Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson, MA; followed by a procession to Saint Michael Cemetery in Hudson for the induction services.
