At a ceremony in Rome, ACI Europe presented the awards corresponding to the 18th edition of the Best Airport Awards which recognize excellence and extraordinary achievement in airport activities. This edition of the awards has devoted particular attention to Covid-19 recovery and sustainability with a focus on how airports are responding to the crisis, but also innovating and inspiring during the Covid-19 pandemic, while focusing on the sustainable goals of the airport industry.
Porto Airport, the best airport in the 10-25 million passenger category, based on passenger numbers in 2019, has been hailed for its recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic and the growing focus on sustainability-related achievements that have engaged both the airport and its stakeholders. The airport was: “Very committed to the local community and region” and “has implemented initiatives such as rainwater harvesting, water footprint reduction and collection of organic waste to a waste yard nearby”, underlines the press release from ACI Europe.
During the pandemic crisis, Porto Airport has maintained its operation and has been highlighted for the effective implementation of sanitary measures and passenger management, Voice of Customer and Hygiene Awards, accredited by CLEAN & SAFE de Turismo of Portugal and certified by Bureau Veritas. At the same time, the marketing teams remained committed to the recovery of activity, working on the development of lines which, combined with the attractiveness of the northern region, made it possible to obtain very positive results in terms of traffic recovery. and connectivity.
At present, Porto Airport has already exceeded the verified connectivity level in the summer of 2019 and 100 scheduled routes are now available.
