Today, a green footprint is important to so many people, even the most seasoned travelers. The pandemic has ended tourism around the world, although from an environmental standpoint it has allowed popular destinations to heal.
With travel restricted, people began to understand that while travel is essential for the economy and happiness, there may be more sustainable approaches to doing so. At SandyBlue, we’ve always recognized the importance of sustainability.
We really care about the Algarve and the planet, so as a company we believe that small changes have a lasting impact. Our many owner partners joined us on this mission, who also recognized the importance of this for villa rental strategies in the future.
So the seventh step of our “Ten Steps to Successful Villa Rental” is “sustainability”. It is about thinking about new ways to improve the operation of the villa in a greener and more ethical way. Believe us when we say it really attracts more customers!
How SandyBlue approaches sustainability
Led by SandyBlue co-owners Joe Mountain and Anastasia Takield, our green mission was simple: to reduce our environmental footprint without compromising the quality of our customer experience by increasing the use of greener and more sustainable methods of operation.
From reducing waste to going paperless to reducing water consumption, the small steps we’ve taken so far have made a big difference.
In the previous installment of our “Ten Steps to Success” series, we discussed the importance of strong partnerships with local businesses. This also ties in with our sustainable approach, as these companies also want to operate in a sustainable manner. Using local suppliers, switching to local and environmentally friendly equipment and encouraging best recycling practices from local producers and villa owners is a mission that is really close to our hearts.
Our hard work resulted in obtaining a Silver Certificate from Green Tourism. Our clients loved seeing this and it will certainly be a deciding factor for tourists to book their vacations with beyond 2021.
What does sustainability mean for villa owners?
Travelers are more attentive and eco-conscious than ever. In a 2021 study by Deloitte, 42% of consumers revealed that they choose companies and brands with environmentally responsible practices.
This figure should not be ignored, as more and more people look to a greener future. For villa owners, it can be difficult to quickly change the way your villa operates to accommodate these rising trends. However, our operations team worked closely with the owners to make sure they were making the right changes to their property, with an eco-friendly goal in mind.
This has certainly paid off for our existing owners, as our additional eco-friendly services maintain their properties ethically. Our window cleaning service has been a great success while our housekeeping teams keep the villas fabulous with environmentally friendly products.
Embrace the future of travel
The commitment to eco-friendly travel will continue to be a large part of SandyBlue’s values. Furthermore, as a villa rental company in the Algarve, we simply cannot ignore the upward trends. Our dynamic and proactive approach, as described in our previous articles, allows us to constantly keep villa owners and their properties on the map.
