Sharjah, Portugal envision stronger economic ties


SHARJAH, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM – September 21, 2021) The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) received a high-level Portuguese delegation, led by Eurico Brilhante Dias, Portuguese Secretary of State for the internationalization, to discuss strengthening economic relations between Sharjah and Portugal.

The delegation was received by Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, President of the SCCI, in the presence of Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director General of the House of Sharjah.

The meeting explored areas of cooperation and the importance of organizing joint programs that serve the interests of their business communities, as well as a trade mission to Portugal in 2022 to strengthen economic, trade and investment ties. .

Al Owais welcomed the delegation and highlighted the depth of relations between Sharjah and the Portuguese business community, thanks to the mutual visits of official and business delegations, which culminated with the launch of the first Portuguese Business Council in Sharjah in January 2021, in addition to the organization of the Sharjah-Portugal Business Forum in cooperation with Aicep Portugal Global last June.

The SCCI President presented to the Portuguese delegation the economic growth and future plans of Sharjah in all sectors and invited Portuguese businessmen and companies to invest in Sharjah and participate in relevant international events, because they offer invaluable opportunities to forge partnerships with companies and institutions in the United Arab Emirates.

Dias, in turn, expressed his country’s readiness to strengthen trade relations with Sharjah, noting its willingness to leverage SCCI’s distinctive experiences to support its local business community and attract foreign investment.

He also invited CSIC to visit the Portugal pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, which will provide a leading platform to organize meetings between the business communities of the two countries.

Dias invited Emirati organizations and companies working in the field of port operations to visit the port of Lisbon, describing it “as one of the most essential European ports, through which the most important maritime communications take place. across the Atlantic Ocean “.

The meeting took place in the presence of Marta Costa, Portuguese Deputy Minister of State for Globalization; Francesca Guedes de Oliveira, Deputy Commissioner General of the Portuguese delegation participating in Expo 2020 Dubai; Daniel Pontas, economic advisor at the Portuguese embassy in the country; Jamal Said Bouzanjal, head of the media department at SCCI, and Fatima Al Mokarrab, director of the international relations department at SCCI.
