VILAMOURA, Portugal (AP) — Jordan Smith will take a two-shot lead in the final round of the Portugal Masters after staying atop the standings for a third straight day.
The Englishman shot 9-under the 62 after hitting the par-4 15th hole and birding eight to go with just one bogey on Saturday at Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course.
Malaysia’s Gavin Green, who shared the lead with Smith at the start of the day, is still his closest pursuer after his 64.
“It’s a lot of good things. It’s the best putt I’ve made in a long, long time,” Smith said. “I’m just going to go out there and play the attacking golf that I’ve been doing for the last three days.”
Smith excelled in Portugal despite feeling ill on Thursday and Friday. His only European tour victory came in 2017, but he has two second-place finishes this season.
“If (the win) happens, then brilliant, that’s the icing on the cake this year,” Smith said.
Sebastian Heisele, playing his final European tour before retiring, is third five strokes behind Smith.
Four other players are seven back.
